The French start-up Wind Fisher presents the world's first high-altitude wind turbine with Magnus effect

By capturing this inexhaustible resource where it is most intense, Wind Fisher positions itself as a leader in a new generation of wind technologies — more efficient, more accessible and truly sustainable.

Designed at the intersection of scientific research and precision engineering, wind fisher's Magnus Airborne Generator (MAG) is based on a unique aerial architecture combining a helium-filled wing and a ground station connected by cables. As it rotates, the cylindrical wing generates a lateral force against the wind (Magnus effect), similar to the lift of a tennis ball. The mechanical energy of the wing is then converted into electricity by a generator at the ground station. This approach overcomes the limitations of conventional wind turbines while harnessing a largely untapped wind resource. Indeed, above 300 meters in altitude, the wind is both more consistent and more powerful than that harnessed by conventional wind turbines. In practical terms, this means that wind fisher's high-altitude wind turbine produces twice as much electricity as a land-based wind turbine and five times as much as a solar installation. The result: a stable and predictable energy supply, powering the electrical grid with unprecedented reliability for a renewable source.

Beyond its energy efficiency, the Wind Fisher MAG also stands out as an exemplary solution from an environmental and economic standpoint. It requires 90% less material than a conventional wind turbine, needs no concrete foundation, and can be deployed in just 24 hours, even in the most difficult-to-access areas. The system developed by Wind Fisher is also extremely compact: its footprint is reduced by a factor of four compared to a land-based wind turbine, and by a factor of 70 compared to a solar installation. Automatic landing in the event of a storm significantly reduces the risk of damage, and maintenance is simplified as it is performed entirely on the ground.

Wind Fisher products are available in several models with varying power outputs, from 100 kW to 2 MW. The compact and quick-to-install MAG 25 model is designed for decentralized applications and small industrial sites. The MAG 80, on the other hand, was designed for large-scale power producers, with modular units that can be grouped into parks of 10 to 100 MW.
