The FNTP and its partners are mobilizing to prevent risks linked to addictions

As part of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking, the National Federation of Public Works and its institutional partners (the Ministry of Labor, Health, Solidarity and Families, Health Insurance - Occupational Risks, the National Institute for Research and Safety for the Prevention of Work Accidents and Occupational Diseases and the Professional Organization for Prevention of Construction) are mobilizing to prevent risks related to addictions in the workplace.

The partners have developed tools to help employers implement prevention actions adapted to the specific characteristics of construction sites.

Raising employee awareness

The fight against addictive behavior requires in particular greater awareness among employees in companies.

To support this approach, the industry's partners are providing companies with an educational toolbox, including posters to be displayed in the workplace, as well as a podcast, awareness sheet, quiz, etc. to be used during prevention sessions on construction sites and in the company.

Adapting company rules

The partners also offer companies elements for adapting their internal regulations, by including a specific clause on the prevention of alcohol and drug consumption. They also give them the opportunity to implement clear procedures, thanks to a detailed flowchart illustrating the conduct to follow in the event of a screening campaign, suspicious behavior, then a positive screening or refusal to take the test, for high-risk positions where any failure can have serious consequences.

Companies are also invited to call on their occupational health and prevention department, or specialist associations, to organize information sessions, workshops or discussion times in the company, allowing people to speak out and better understand the risks.

For Laurent Manzon, president of the FNTP’s Prevention-Health at Work committee: "Addiction poses a danger to oneself and others. In a company, reporting a worrying situation isn't about denouncing, but about protecting. It's therefore crucial to raise employee awareness in order to establish a culture of shared vigilance."

By enabling companies and workers to better identify, prevent and react to these sensitive situations, the FNTP intends to contribute to a safer, more responsible and more protective working environment for all professionals in the public works sector.
