SPIE continues the deployment of a video surveillance system on line A of the Lyon metro

Launched at the end of 2023, the installation work will enable the real-time transmission of video streams between trains, platforms and control points, significantly strengthening the safety of passengers using this major line of the TCL (Lyonnais Public Transport) network with nearly 260.000 journeys/day.

Technical expertise in the service of security

SPIE CityNetworks, the lead agency for the consortium formed with Roiret Transport, is responsible for the integration and deployment of a latest-generation ground/on-board communication system, enabling instant transmission of video surveillance images. Deployed for SYTRAL Mobilités, this solution equips the entire line A (26 trains in total), including the tunnels and the workshop shared by lines A and B.

Thanks to the instantaneous transmission of images between running trains and control stations, operators will benefit from a global, real-time view of the entire network. This permanent surveillance, combined with significant recording capacities, significantly enhances user safety while limiting the impact of incidents on service regularity.

The train driver will also be able to view images in the station to manage the opening and closing of doors according to the flow of passengers.

• Deployment of a complete radio link infrastructure and reorganization of video cabinets in the 14 stations of the line

An organization optimized to maintain service

To minimize the impact on traffic, SPIE CityNetworks teams have implemented a specific organization. Interventions are carried out exclusively at night, outside of commercial operating periods, using a rigorous methodology adapted to the constraints of the underground environment. This solution meets the stringent requirements of a metro network where the performance of the video surveillance system is critical to safety and service flow.

Proven expertise on the Lyon metropolitan network

SPIE CityNetworks has extensive experience implementing video surveillance systems on various lines of the Lyon metro. On Line D (2017 to 2018), SPIE CityNetworks equipped 36 trains with 576 cameras and a ground/onboard communication system. On Line B (including its extension to Hôpital Lyon Sud), it ensured the complete deployment (2020-2023) of the ground/onboard communication system and low currents: 36 automatic trains were equipped. On Line C (2021 to 2024), it implemented a ground/onboard communication system for all 5 trains.
