Socomec is investing 45 million euros in the construction of a new industrial site in Benfeld

Located on a 5-hectare site, north of the existing facilities and with an area of ​​16.000 m², the new factory will constitute a center of excellence, integrating testing and development facilities with the production of specialized energy conversion equipment.

This €45 million investment will enable Socomec to meet the sustained growth of its markets in France and internationally, driven by the rise of the digital economy and data centers. This new industrial site also confirms the strong ties of the Alsatian mid-sized company to its home region and its commitment to maintaining its employment base there. Construction will begin in June 2026, with completion expected by the end of 2027.

A historic investment and a reaffirmed local presence

Founded in 1922 in Benfeld, Socomec now employs more than 4.800 people worldwide, including 1.400 at its Alsatian sites. This investment confirms the strong ties that bind the company to its home region. Indeed, while the group has expanded internationally since the 1980s, it makes a point of maintaining a significant portion of its production in Alsace.

Socomec is one of the approximately 1.400 French family businesses that are over a century old, and is currently one of the last manufacturers to produce inverters on national territory.

Taking advantage of the immediate proximity of its various Alsatian industrial sites, this new facility will strengthen the existing industrial ecosystem and will be a major asset for its European commercial development.

An innovative industrial site to combine well-being and collective performance

Designed to offer an efficient and seamless organization, and conceived to place employee well-being at the heart of its operations, the new site will integrate advanced technologies – automation, robots, cobots, and AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots) – to free operators from repetitive tasks through high-performance equipment, and to guarantee the quality and durability standards for which the company's products are renowned. Optimized workflows and the creation of bright, ergonomic, and adaptable spaces will lead to lasting improvements in working conditions, safety, and collective performance.

Photovoltaic panels, solar shading and other green roofs will allow the building to achieve a high level of energy efficiency, in accordance with the RE2020 regulations. The size of the land also allows for anticipating future expansion needs in order to support Socomec's long-term growth.

The future site is poised to become a strategic industrial hub, the starting point for equipment destined for the entire EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, and Africa). With enhanced local production capacity, Socomec will be able to respond more quickly to its customers' needs, as well as control its costs and reduce CO₂ emissions related to transportation.

A center of expertise serving critical infrastructure

With the electrification of uses, dependence on a reliable power supply becomes crucial: data centers, hospitals, industrial sites or commercial buildings now rely on connected and automated systems that do not tolerate any interruption of service.

Often invisible, UPS systems – also known as uninterruptible power supplies – are an essential component in the operation of these infrastructures. They provide immediate power in the event of a grid outage and protect equipment against electrical fluctuations or disturbances.

Through its future site, Socomec intends to consolidate its competitiveness in the EMEA region and strengthen its position in the UPS market, driven by data centers, whose global demand is expected to increase by 20% per year until 2030*. The group also affirms its commitment to a more innovative and sustainable energy industry, and to European industrial sovereignty.
