RATP and SNCF: major summer 2026 works in Paris and the Île-de-France region, announces IDF Mobilités

In the Île-de-France region, the summer of 2026 will be marked by major works on the transport networks, with numerous disruptions expected for users. These operations, although inconvenient for travel, aim to modernize existing infrastructure and prepare its connection with the future lines of the Grand Paris Express (lines 15, 16, 17 and 18).

As Île-de-France Mobilités pointed out, these construction projects are intended, in particular, to facilitate connections with the new stations of the future network. The transport authority specifies that the overall budget for the works reaches "nearly 4 billion euros" for 2026.

Paris metro: several lines heavily impacted

Within Paris itself, several major metro lines will be affected by summer closures.

The line 4 (Bagneux – Porte de Clignancourt), which is particularly busy, will be interrupted for 19 days between Les Halles and Montparnasse, from July 6 to 24, as part of modernization work.

Lines 8 and 12 will also experience disruptions in preparation for the arrival of the new MF19 trains. Line 8 will be closed between Balard and Concorde from August 20 to 27. Furthermore, trains will not serve République station between July 22 and April 2027. Line 12 will be closed between Jules-Joffrin and Concorde from July 16 to 26.

Line 13, one of the busiest lines on the network, will experience several disruptions due to its upcoming conversion to automated operation. A major shutdown is planned between Saint-Denis-Université and La Fourche for 18 days, from July 31 to August 17.

RER: Extended closures and infrastructure renovations

On the RER side, several strategic lines will be impacted.

On the RER A line, service will be interrupted from August 8 to 23 between Vincennes (not included) and Noisy-le-Grand. Nation station will be closed for two months, from June 29 to August 30, due to renovation work.

On the RER B, interruptions and station closures are scheduled on different sections from July 25 to August 30, notably for the renewal of track switches and ballast.

The RER C line will undergo numerous construction projects: track replacement between Neuilly and Saint-Ouen, work in the tunnel between Meudon and Chaville, installation of flood protection at Invalides, and renewal of the overhead power lines near Austerlitz. The line will be closed from July 15 to August 22 between Austerlitz and Versailles Château Rive Gauche, Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, and Pontoise.

In addition, a large-scale operation is planned with the renewal of 40 switches and the replacement of tracks in the underground stations of Gare du Nord and Gare de Lyon, from July 25 to August 16.

Also note: for the May 1st weekend, from Thursday, April 30th, the Gare de Lyon will be completely closed to allow these works, with a diversion of TGVs and other trains to other stations.

Transilien and tramways: track closures and renewal

On the Transilien network, line P will undergo the renewal of more than 20 kilometers of track. This will result in a closure between Meaux and La Ferté-Milon from July 13 to August 9, as well as between Tournan and Coulommiers from July 13 to August 23.

On the tram side, the T1 line will be closed for three months between Bobigny-Pablo Picasso and Noisy-le-Sec, and for a little over a month between Asnières-Quatre Routes and La Courneuve – 8 mai 1945. The T2 line will be interrupted between Puteaux and Charlebourg from July 13 to August 23.

Teleworking, carpooling, and planning ahead are recommended.

Given the scale of these disruptions, Île-de-France Mobilités is urging residents of the Île-de-France region to adapt their travel habits. The organization recommends "working from home," "avoiding peak hours," "preferring walking or cycling for short distances," "considering carpooling," and above all, "plan ahead" by extending travel times.
