The metros, trams and RER trains in the Île-de-France region improved their punctuality in 2025, but network modernization projects disrupting traffic will continue in the coming months, operators and Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) warned a few days ago.
"The improvement in the metro situation observed last year has been maintained this year, the 2024 Olympics were a catalyst for this recovery, confirmed in 2025," said Valérie Pécresse, president of the regional transport authority IDFM, on Wednesday, after the annual hearing of the CEOs of RATP and SNCF.
"In 10 years, we have gone from 200 to 800 million euros of work per year, and SNCF Réseau is asking us to increase it to one billion: I understand the weariness of the people of the Île-de-France region" regarding the disruptions caused by these construction sites, added Ms. Pécresse, promising better consultation for the continuation of the work.
In 2025, twelve out of fourteen metro lines had an average on-time performance rate exceeding 90%, according to IDFM. In March, this rate stood at 96,5%, compared to 88% in March 2023, the lowest level in the last four years.
"The metro has returned to its pre-Covid service level," commented Xavier Piechaczyk, CEO of RATP.
Only two "fragile" lines, the 12 and the 13, show inferior performance.
There remain the problems of "passenger incidents" and "abandoned parcels" particularly on line 12, linking the town hall of Aubervilliers (in the north) to the town hall of Issy (in the south) via Montmartre, Montparnasse and the Porte de Versailles.
Line 13, between Saint-Denis and Asnières (to the north) and Châtillon-Montrouge (to the south), plans to improve the situation in 2027 with new MF19 trainsets, then by automating the line by 2035.
For the RER and Transilien, average punctuality was 91,3% in 2025, with two "fragile" lines, the E and the J, and two "in difficulty" lines, the C and the D, for which a new maintenance center in 2027 should improve the situation, according to IDFM.
SNCF CEO Jean Castex has apologized to passengers on line J, where a faulty switch caused significant damage to rolling stock axles and numerous delays. He stated his willingness to compensate affected passengers.
He welcomed the "record ridership" in 2025: 927 million journeys recorded on the Transilien, compared to 891 million in 2024.
