Publication of the CSTB guide "Playgrounds and Fitness Areas"

This guide details the conditions for creating outdoor spaces dedicated to play and children and takes into account the revision of standards NF EN 1176 (1 to 11) and EN 1177.

This "Play and Fitness Areas" guide takes into account the revision of standards NF EN 1176 (1 to 11) and EN 1177 and provides illustrated and practical answers to the following questions:

What safety standards and criteria must be met?
How to choose and install sports games and furniture safely?
How to address the risk of falling?
How to install play and sports equipment, and shock-absorbing flooring?
How can we ensure the control and maintenance of playgrounds and sports areas?

This guide also addresses the budgetary and administrative aspects related to the establishment (rental or purchase), management (internal or external) and maintenance (inspections, repairs) of a free access playground or fitness area.

This new edition has been updated to include all current reference texts. It covers freely accessible outdoor fitness areas (NF EN 16630 standard), which have seen significant growth in local communities over the past decade. The standards and management regulations governing these facilities are indeed similar to those for children's playgrounds.

The guide will therefore be of interest to all professionals who have to specify or implement these areas and equipment: project owners, in particular local authorities, public or private managers, architects, engineering firms...
