Profils Systèmes continues to reduce its carbon footprint

From the genesis of the project to the first conclusive assessment

Initiated in April 2024 by Vincent Chabert, Hygiene, Safety, Environment & Energy Technician upon taking up his position at Profils Systèmes, the main objective of this new approach was to optimize, reduce and recover cardboard and plastic waste.

A preliminary comparative study was conducted on-site to compare a baling press system with a compactor system. The latter technology was chosen because the other option proved more demanding in terms of logistics and handling, with more complex and costly operations (strapping the cardboard bales once compacted, more complex sorting between cardboard and plastics, and depositing them in skips after compaction).

A first compactor (3-ton capacity, with a replacement every two months, previously daily) was installed in the logistics building in October 2024 and subsequently tested by staff for four months. The trial having been entirely successful, two additional compactors were deployed on-site in the industrial building on September 3, 2025.

For Vincent Chabert: « The use of compactors optimizes waste sorting, particularly for cardboard and plastic. By limiting sorting errors and preventing the collection of incorrect waste, the proportion of non-recyclable waste decreases, thus improving the site's overall environmental impact. The goal is to increase the share of recyclable waste (cardboard/plastic) in the overall waste stream (currently at 30%) to 50% through improved separation and a reduction in sorting errors. And Vincent Chabert concluded: The installation of compactors at Profils Systèmes has modernized waste management, significantly reduced the carbon footprint associated with waste management, generated substantial savings, and strengthened the company's environmental commitment.
