Patrick Martin, president of Medef, announces the holding of the employers' meeting on October 13

Mr. Martin, who announced on Tuesday that a "huge meeting" of employers would be held soon, specified the date after leaving a meeting with Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu at Matignon with the two other representative employers' organizations, the CPME and the U2P, and specified that this event "would involve a very large number of employers' organizations."

The U2P has already made it known that it had not been consulted before Mr. Martin's announcement of a meeting "with all employers' organizations," and its president, Michel Picon, reiterated this refusal as he left Matignon, while the CPME president, Amir Reza-Tofighi, indicated that he would consult his authorities before responding.

"This is not a rally against Sébastien Lecornu or against a government that has not yet been formed, nor against a budget that has not yet been written," explained Patrick Martin.

"It's simply that we feel it's necessary to rebalance a debate that has been preempted by some, and which ultimately saturates the airwaves, on the super-rich, etc. The real issue in France today is to recreate economic dynamics."

"We will deliver a somewhat alarmist speech on the emptiness, or at least the danger, of this fiscal-tax debate, which takes no account of the international situation, and we will make proposals," assured Patrick Martin.

"This country needs prospects, to re-enchant itself. I'm not saying we'll succeed, but we'll try," concluded Mr. Martin.
