Orsted files a lawsuit against the suspension of its second wind farm project in the United States

The Trump administration announced at the end of December that it was suspending all major offshore wind projects under construction in the United States, citing "national security" reasons.

The Sunrise Wind project "is suffering considerable harm as a result of the continued suspension of the lease order. Therefore, legal action is necessary to protect the project's rights," the group wrote in a statement.

Sunrise Wind "obtained all the required local, regional and federal permits, after several years of thorough review," he recalls.

The project, which is nearly 45% complete, was scheduled to begin producing electricity as early as October 2026. It is expected to supply 600.000 homes in 2027 under a 25-year contract with the State of New York.

Orsted filed a similar lawsuit in early January against the suspension of its other US project, Revolution Wind, located off the coast of New England and nearly completed. It was scheduled to begin supplying electricity in early 2026.

Accusing them of killing birds, whales and "ruining the landscape", Donald Trump has multiplied his actions since returning to power last January to put a stop to the offshore wind industry.
