Offshore wind turbines: the Yeu-Noirmoutier wind farm is now 100% operational

"After ten years of design and consultation and 33 months of work at sea, the installation of the wind farm has been completed. It is therefore entering the operational phase with its 61 wind turbines which produce renewable electricity corresponding to the annual consumption of nearly 800.000 people, or the equivalent of the population of Vendée," the wind farm explains in a press release.

It is operated by Ocean Winds, a joint venture dedicated to offshore wind power created by the French energy industrial group Engie and the Portuguese group EDPR.

Since June 2025, electricity production has been effective and progressive, with each wind turbine being put into service as the installation work on the offshore turbines progresses, the press release emphasizes.

The fourth wind farm in France, after Saint-Nazaire, Fécamp, and Saint-Brieuc, is located about twenty kilometers from the coast, 12 to 16 km off the ports of Île d'Yeu and L'Herbaudière in Noirmoutier. To facilitate fishing operations, the wind turbines are oriented according to the main currents.

The project, costing 2,5 billion euros, was launched in 2014 but work at sea began in 2023.
