Building on its expertise and capacity for innovation, the Périgord-based company continues to develop its offering with increasingly environmentally friendly solutions, using local resources, to meet current construction challenges and future environmental challenges.
As the year draws to a close, the Saint-Astier® eco-materials range is being enhanced with improved, low-carbon solutions built around the winning combination of lime and hemp. The two iconic and well-known limes in the range – BATICHANVRE® and BATICHANVRE ISOL® – have been improved to become BATICHANVRE® PLUS and BATICHANVRE® ISOL PLUS, with a composition enriched in Natural Hydraulic Lime and a significantly reduced carbon footprint.
New BATICHANVRE® PLUS and BATICHANVRE® ISOL PLUS: A patented formula with improved performance
BATICHANVRE® and BATICHANVRE ISOL® binders, two historic and iconic Saint-Astier® products, well-known and trusted by industry professionals, have become "PLUS" in both name and promise. Indeed, BATICHANVRE® PLUS and BATICHANVRE® ISOL PLUS have been enriched with pure Saint-Astier® Natural Hydraulic Lime. This patented formula has been optimized to reduce the carbon footprint by 40%*. The binders in these new formulas benefit from a significantly reduced CO2 impact during manufacturing compared to the leading binders on the market. They provide:
- superior technical performance
- with a reduced setting time,
- a reduced need for water,
- an improved construction site application
- machine cleaning made easier on site.
Formulated to make lime-hemp mortars and concretes, BATICHANVRE® PLUS and BATICHANVRE® ISOL PLUS are used in many applications: walls, interior lining, timber framing filling, insulating concrete on intermediate floors or insulating concrete under roofs with ISOCANNA® hemp shives [a product of plant origin, derived from the hemp stem] or any hemp shives labeled "Building Hemp".
The BATICHANVRE® PLUS / ISOCANNA® and BATICHANVRE® ISOL PLUS / ISOCANNA® combinations meet the technical requirements defined by the Professional Rules and are officially validated by the CenC (Building with Hemp) association, thus guaranteeing their compliance with the most demanding standards in the sector.

Lime and hemp: the virtuous duo
Since the pioneering launch of BATICHANVRE® and ISOCANNA® in the 2000s, Chaux Saint-Astier® has continuously developed its range of eco-materials, culminating in the 2023 release of KALAMUA®, a ready-to-use finishing plaster specifically designed for use on hemp blocks and concrete, and until now unique on the market. A cornerstone of the lime producer's current strategy, the combination of natural hydraulic lime and hemp delivers exceptional performance in terms of thermal, acoustic, and moisture insulation.
Indeed, lime-hemp concrete promotes the permeability of walls to water vapor, thus limiting the risks of condensation and mold, and ensures excellent humidity regulation for a healthier living environment.
Its thermal inertia, with a significant phase shift, helps limit heat loss in winter and maintain coolness in summer. It ensures optimal comfort in all seasons while maximizing the building's energy performance.
Lime-hemp concrete insulation also offers excellent acoustic performance with good sound absorption. Remarkably durable, fire-resistant, rodent- and insect-proof, and capable of capturing CO2… the numerous advantages of this lime-hemp combination make it a promising bio-based material for the future.
With BATICHANVRE® PLUS and BATICHANVRE® ISOL PLUS, Chaux Saint-Astier® provides craftsmen committed to responsible and sustainable construction methods with long-lasting solutions that improve building performance while reducing their environmental impact.
The lime producer doesn't intend to stop there; in 2026, it will launch a new, specific product line within its eco-materials range. These innovative products will address the challenges of resource scarcity and the evolving needs of professionals in terms of on-site application.
