2026 Municipal Elections: Syntec-Ingénierie's recommendations for better living in local areas

As the 2026 municipal elections approach, our communities face major challenges. From the climate emergency and the energy transition to evolving mobility patterns and aging infrastructure, the issues are complex and deeply interconnected. At the same time, citizens' expectations, particularly for more pleasant, healthy, and resilient spaces, are growing stronger.

In this context, Syntec-Ingénierie publishes a white paper which offers a roadmap to support elected officials and local stakeholders in the sustainable transformation of their territories.

Engineering, a key lever for territorial transitions

Particularly involved in major transitions, engineering is a key lever for local public action. Its expertise, grounded in science and in-depth knowledge of the local context, enables it to objectify decisions, anticipate risks, secure projects, and translate political orientations into tangible achievements. Concrete recommendations for sustainable, pleasant and resilient cities

Syntec-Ingénierie, through the mobilization of its members, regional delegates and local elected officials, has compiled its recommendations in its book "Better living in the city: engineering at the heart of the transformation of territories", to bring out the issues deemed priorities and propose concrete solutions.

The white paper is structured around five major themes:

building the city with sobriety and resilience;
adapt buildings to energy and urban challenges;
develop sustainable and fluid mobility;
to promote a productive and sustainable city;
designing a peaceful and safe city.

This white paper also underlines that the success of these transitions depends on a comprehensive vision, integrating climate imperatives, long-term financial planning and enhanced consultation with citizens.

According to Michel Kahan, President of Syntec-Ingénierie: "The ambition is clear: to start from reality, from the concrete difficulties encountered by communities, in order to propose proven, transferable and sustainable solutions. Solutions conceived by engineers – women and men who design projects in their entirety, anticipate interactions between disciplines, and seek a balance between performance, cost, environmental impact and quality of life."

This approach is based on fundamental values that guide the federation's actions: responsibility, to place each project within a perspective of sustainability and collective progress; intellectual independence, and commitment alongside elected officials and citizens to successfully achieve transitions where they matter, at the heart of the territories.
