Motorway tolls are expected to increase less than inflation on average in 2026

This figure, revealed by Le Parisien on Friday and confirmed to AFP by a source close to the matter, is to be presented on Tuesday by the Ministry of Transport to the Committee of Users of the National Road Network.

Changes to motorway tolls take effect from February 1st each year.

They apply to the 7 concessionary motorway networks in France: APRR, AREA, ASF, Cofiroute, Escota, Sanef, and SAPN.

If confirmed, this average increase in motorway tolls will be the lowest since 2021. It comes after an increase of 0,92% in 2025, 3% in 2024 and 4,75% in 2023.

It will be lower than the expected inflation rate for 2025, which is 1% according to INSEE.

And it should also be lower than the inflation expected for 2026. The INSEE forecast is not yet available.

The Bank of France expects an average increase of 1,3% in consumer prices in France next year, according to a harmonized index which allows a comparison between European countries.

The National Road Network Users Committee, created in 2009, is an advisory body attached to the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry responsible for consumer affairs.

It brings together four senior representatives of the administration such as the director of transport infrastructure, the director of transport services, the director general of competition, the delegate for road safety, eight representatives of associations, such as federations of transporters, motorists, motorcyclists, or environmental protection, a member of parliament, a senator, a representative of the association of French motorway companies and three external figures.
