MaPrimeRénov': Anah unveils its objectives for comprehensive housing renovation by 2026

The National Housing Agency (Anah), which distributes aid for housing renovation, set itself the objective on Tuesday, December 16, during its board meeting, of financing large-scale energy renovation work in 120.000 homes in 2026, subject to the vote on the State budget.

This objective is divided between 68.000 renovations of condominium units and 52.000 individual units.

As announced by Housing Minister Vincent Jeanbrun on Saturday, the application portal for comprehensive renovation grants will be reopened to all households on January 1st.

However, without approval of the draft finance bill (PLF) for 2026, the entire system will be suspended.

This target of 120.000 renovations is, however, already reduced by the 83.000 files still in stock at the end of this year.

"There's going to be a total bottleneck!", warns Jacques Baudrier, PCF deputy mayor in charge of housing for the City of Paris, who calls for doubling the budget of the Anah to meet demand by creating dedicated revenue.

MaPrimeRénov' for comprehensive renovations experienced a surge in applications from the end of 2024, prompting the government to pause the scheme from June to September 2025 and to restrict its granting rules.

For 2026, Anah "has adjusted the parameters to guarantee continuity", notably by lowering the maximum amount of subsidy per application, and assures AFP that it has "substantial resources to meet demand".

"Each territory will have objectives and resources and there will be a dialogue to monitor the dynamics throughout the year," adds Anah.

Anah also plans to help 150.000 renovations per gesture - when only one type of work is carried out at a time - "with an emphasis on the decarbonization of heating methods" in line with the State's new National Low Carbon Strategy.

In total, the Anah's budget for aid to individuals is 4,4 billion euros, of which 3,4 billion euros is for energy renovation.

The €555 million reduction in the state funding is offset by increased use of energy saving certificates, which should bring more than €1 billion to the Anah.

According to a post published Thursday, Maxime Ledez, a researcher at the Institute for Climate Economics (I4CE), the funds paid to Anah by the State in 2025 "were not enough to satisfy all the demands" and the reduced amount in 2026 "will probably not be enough either" despite the changes in parameters.

A strengthening of the fight against fraud attempts was also agreed on Tuesday, with for example the possibility of carrying out remote physical checks.
