Medef postpones its meeting scheduled for October 13

"For over a year, our country has been going through a major crisis. It is paralyzed politically and economically. This morning, we entered a new phase that risks leading us to an institutional crisis," the French Business Movement said in a statement.

"In this context, we call on all political leaders to take stock of a situation that could lead our country to chaos and further worsen our economic situation," he added.

The Medef (French employers' association) has therefore decided to postpone the meeting it had planned to hold next Monday at the Accor Arena in Bercy, near the Ministry of Economy and Finance, but which was shunned by the two other major employers' organizations, the Confederation of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (CPME) and U2P (local businesses).

"The moment of extreme tension that we are going through encourages us to contribute to calming the country," he explained.

The announcement in September of this meeting by the president of the Medef, Patrick Martin, which he wanted to be "huge", and "all employers' organisations combined", had taken the CPME and the U2P by surprise.

The invitation sent by the Medef to entrepreneurs had the slogan "Let's make France win", believing that they are "the real rebels".

Large businesses, in particular, were concerned about a possible increase in their taxes in the 2026 budget.

Such a bosses' demonstration is very rare. The most memorable precedent, organized by the CNPF, the predecessor of the Medef (French employers' union), brought together 25.000 business leaders at the Villepinte Exhibition Center (Seine-Saint-Denis) on December 14, 1982, to protest against the policies implemented by Socialist President François Mitterrand.
