Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu denied on Friday, September 26, any intention to impose a moratorium on renewable energy, denying a press report that he was preparing to issue a decree to this effect.
"This information is completely false and misleading: there is no question of going back on our energy ambitions because decarbonization is a priority for our sovereignty. We must break away from certain dependencies," he told Le Parisien.
"On the other hand, as with every euro of public money spent, no rent will be tolerated," he added.
According to an article in the online media Contexte published Thursday, Sébastien Lecornu was ready to publish by decree France's new energy roadmap (known as the "PPE"), including a "moratorium on solar and onshore wind power," in order to avoid censorship by the National Rally.
This prospect sparked an outcry on Thursday among renewable energy advocates and industry players. On Friday, the FNSEA (National Federation of French Trade Unions) also denounced a possible moratorium on energy sources that "represent a major opportunity for the development of French agriculture."
