Centre Pompidou: Laurent Le Bon reappointed as president to prepare for the reopening in 2030

Laurent Le Bon has been reappointed for three years as president of the Centre national d'art et de culture Georges-Pompidou. This reappointment, decided by the President of the Republic on the recommendation of the Minister of Culture, Catherine Pégard, was announced on July 23, 2026.

President of the institution since 2021, Laurent Le Bon is thus beginning a second term largely devoted to the "Pompidou 2030" project and the development of new establishments in France and abroad.

Preparing for the reopening of the Centre Pompidou

Inaugurated in 1977, the Parisian Centre Pompidou building closed its doors in the autumn of 2025 to allow for its relocation, followed by a major renovation project that began in 2026. Its reopening is scheduled for 2030.

Recognizable by its tubular architecture and colorful technical networks, the historic site houses one of the world's leading collections of modern and contemporary art, alongside, in particular, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.

For his new mandate, Laurent Le Bon "will have the fundamental mission of rethinking, alongside the teams (...) the reopening of the historic site," emphasizes the Ministry of Culture.

"Through this collective reflection, the aim will be to reaffirm the Centre Pompidou as a living place, where art, creation and the public interact with the same intensity as in its early days, while anticipating the cultural expectations of tomorrow," says the Ministry of Culture.

New locations in Brussels and Massy

In the shorter term, Laurent Le Bon will have to support the inauguration of the Centre Pompidou KANAL in Brussels, scheduled for the end of 2026. Other international branches are also in preparation.

He will then lead the opening, scheduled for 2027, of the Centre Pompidou Francilien – Fabrique de l'art in Massy, ​​Essonne. This new site is designed both as an exhibition space and as a place for the conservation of collections.

During the closure of the Parisian building, the "Constellation" cultural program allows "the works to shine (...) beyond the walls of the museum", through partnerships organized in France and internationally.

Emmanuel Kasarhérou also reappointed to the Quai Branly Museum

In a separate statement, the Ministry of Culture also announced the reappointment of Emmanuel Kasarhérou as president of the Musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac. First appointed in May 2020, he is beginning his third term at the head of the institution.

In recent years, the museum "has positioned itself as a major player in museum research, particularly on issues of provenance and restitution" of looted works, the ministry emphasizes.

During this new term, the institution "will have to maintain its policy of international outreach, restitution of cultural property and development of audience policy".
