Knauf Thane OpTTI®: the new, optimal polyurethane insulation for waterproofing roofs

KNAUF THANE OPTTI^® : an optimized insulation solution to meet the maximum number of waterproofing support roofs

New polyurethane insulation for waterproofing roofs, Knauf Thane OpTTI^® is a complex composed of a core of flame-retardant PIR-type rigid polyurethane foam and two aluminum-kraft composite facings. It is manufactured in France at the Knauf site in Auxerre.

Knauf Thane OpTTI^® is ideally suited to flat roofs (on steel, wood or concrete supports), waterproofed sloping roofs and green roofs. The process is also required for technical roofs (technical areas and associated circulation paths excluding the platform path) and accessible roofs (for pedestrians and the living room with heavy protection). It is also suitable for inaccessible roofs, with waterproofing processes including flexible photovoltaic modules and for the temporary retention of rainwater on load-bearing elements or masonry and associated circulation paths. Knauf Thane OpTTI® is suitable for both new construction and renovation. It can be installed under exposed waterproofing covering as well as under heavy protection. It is particularly relevant in common cases of insulation on steel supports with or without thermal shield. These two implementations are validated by ATEx from the CSTB (with thermal shield n°3369_v1 and without n°3368_v1).

Simple and competitive implementation

Knauf Thane OpTTI® is available in small (1200 x 1000 mm) and large (2500 x 1200 mm) formats to adapt perfectly to all construction sites. The small formats are intended for roofs with small surfaces or requiring modularity, for example roofs with many openings or penetrations. The large formats ensure a significant gain in productivity on large roof surfaces, as they can cover 3 m² per panel and they require fewer fixings on the site as a whole.

Knauf Thane OpTTI panels^® are used in one or two layers and are mechanically fixed to the load-bearing elements. The waterproofing coatings are implemented by mechanical fixing, with total adhesion or independently under heavy protection.

In addition, Knauf Thane OpTTI® allows the thicknesses of insulation used in roofs to be optimized thanks to the intrinsic thermal performance of polyurethane (λ = 0.022 W/mK), which, with equal thermal resistance, claims lower thicknesses compared to other insulations with less efficient λ (e.g. R = 6,85 m².K/W in only 1 layer of 150 mm thickness). Depending on the thermal resistance required, Knauf Thane OpTTI^® is available in thicknesses from 40 to 160 mm for thermal resistances ranging from 1,80 to 7,30 m².K/W.

As specified in the two ATEx of the CSTB of the system, Knauf Thane OpTTI^® can be implemented with thermal screen in rock wool or expanded perlite, in buildings requiring it, for example in the case of a steel support in Public Buildings (ERP). Its price positioning is also optimized thanks to its aluminum-kraft facing in order to deal with common construction sites, with high technical requirements but also not requiring Euroclass D of the insulation (case already covered by Knauf SteelThane for certain types of ICPE). Knauf Thane OpTTI^® thus guarantees both project managers and waterproofing companies a truly optimal cost/performance ratio.
