In Saint-Denis, Idex is supporting the former Athletes' Village towards collective consumption of solar energy

Still little known, this solution is increasingly appealing to social landlords, communities and energy transition stakeholders.

A pioneering installation in Île-de-France

Spread across five buildings, the 600 panels produce nearly 250 MWh per year, covering part of the residents' needs, as well as 50% of the consumption of a nearby organic grocery store. The goal: to share local, renewable, and carbon-free energy while reducing participants' electricity bills.

A device that is still little known but is growing rapidly

Implemented by IDEX, a French specialist in low-carbon energy performance, this initiative illustrates the potential of collective self-consumption. Authorized since 2018, it allows producers and consumers located within a defined geographical area to pool electricity produced from local renewable energy sources.

At the end of May 2025, 1.033 collective self-consumption operations were recorded in France, bringing together nearly 11.700 participants according to Enedis. The movement has accelerated since the 2022 energy crisis and the rise in electricity prices, reinforcing the appeal of solutions that combine cost control, energy independence, and contribution to climate objectives.

Economic and social benefits

For social landlords, collective self-consumption allows them to power common areas and redistribute the surplus to tenants, thus helping to reduce energy poverty. Communities and businesses see it as a way to optimize their bills while locally valuing the energy produced.
