In Lille, a wing of the police station evacuated due to poor workmanship

The personnel concerned are part of the North Zonal Directorate of the National Police (DZPN) and the RAID, which will however remain "fully operational", the prefecture assured in a press release.

According to a local police source interviewed by AFP, around 150 officers will be directly affected.

They will continue their tasks either by teleworking or in other premises in Lille, in open work spaces, according to the same source.

The evacuation of building E of the central police station in Lille is necessary to carry out work to strengthen its structure, following the recommendations of an independent expert, explained the prefecture.

No details have been given yet on the duration of the evacuation.

"We police officers adapt to all situations", but this "will affect the quality of their working environment" and this work risks costing "millions of euros", deplores Régis Debut, Hauts-de-France zonal secretary of the Unsa Police union, interviewed by AFP.

According to the union representative, the implementation is likely to take "several weeks": "we have computer networks which are protected, we cannot do whatever we want", he stressed.
