In Ervy-le-Châtel, a former tourist site is being transformed into a village of 22 wooden cabins

A former tourist wasteland bordering the Armance river now houses 22 wooden cabins. Inaugurated in July 2026 in Ervy-le-Châtel, in the Aube region, the Nutchel Champagne estate constitutes the operator's second French location and third European forest village.

The project was developed on the site of the former municipal campsite, which has been closed since 2023. It represents an investment of nearly 3 million euros and aims to revitalize this 4-hectare site without extending urbanization into natural or agricultural areas.

Demountable structures to limit artificialization

The village consists of 22 cabins integrated into an environment combining river, hills, and the Champagne landscape. According to Nutchel, the accommodations were installed without permanent foundations in order to limit their footprint on the land and to retain the possibility of reversibility.

The project is therefore based on the rehabilitation of an existing tourist site rather than the creation of a new one. The buildings have also been designed to blend into the landscape and preserve the natural characteristics of the site as much as possible.

The company states that it dedicates 15% of the amount of each reservation to actions for the renaturalization of the domain.

"If we have to leave in 30 years, we will take our cabins and leave behind a forest," explains Clémence, co-founder of Nutchel.

Ten jobs created for the operation of the site

The opening of the resort has led to the creation of ten jobs related to reception, governance, upkeep, maintenance, and operation of the accommodations. According to the operator, the vast majority of these positions have been filled locally.

The project also involved several companies and craftsmen from the Aube region. Nutchel specifically mentions Melliat Construction in Piney, Scierie Collignon in Ervy-le-Châtel, JBD Électricité Sanitaire and Gedimat CGB in Lavau, as well as various companies located in the Troyes metropolitan area.

The project received support from the City of Ervy-le-Châtel, the community of municipalities, Aube en Champagne Attractivité, the Grand Est Region, Foncière Tourisme Grand Est and the prefecture of Aube.

A new tourism offer for the Aube region

Located near Troyes and the Champagne tourist route, the village intends to serve as a starting point for discovering hiking trails and cycling routes, villages, vineyards, producers and artisans of the area.

Nutchel is therefore developing partnerships with local stakeholders in the fields of agriculture, crafts, professional integration, and sustainable mobility. This establishment comes at a time when the Othe-Armance destination has obtained the Bronze level of the Green Destinations label, which assesses the initiatives undertaken by territories in the area of ​​responsible tourism.

Common areas and an outdoor spa

Beyond the cabins, the estate includes communal areas, a landscaped trail, and self-guided activities. An outdoor spa also features a sauna, Nordic baths, and several relaxation areas.

The development was designed around an offering of stays in the heart of nature, while also seeking to generate economic benefits for Ervy-le-Châtel and tourism stakeholders in the Aube region.
