DoorBird video intercoms have set standards in the field of door communication. Today, these multi-award-winning products are part of the Homematic IP smart home system. Update 3.5.13 of the free Homematic IP app, which will be rolled out gradually starting May 27, 2025, allows users to establish a secure cloud-to-cloud connection between a DoorBird video intercom and a Homematic IP system. This makes access control in the smart home even easier and more convenient.
If a visitor comes to the door and rings the bell, the Homematic IP app informs the residents via a push message. A simple tap of the finger is then enough to speak directly to the guest: all video and audio signals are transmitted directly to the Homematic IP app. If desired, the door can be opened with a single tap - simply, quickly, and securely.
As a Homematic IP partner product, the DoorBird video intercom can be flexibly combined with numerous smart home system components, for example with a Homematic IP door lock mechanism. Users can also use the integrated switching relay, motion detector or doorbell button and access module of the DoorBird device for intelligent automation, as required.
The integration is available to all customers with a Homematic IP Access Point or a Homematic IP Home Control Unit and the free Homematic IP app from version 3.5.13, which will be gradually rolled out to all users from May 27, 2025. All DoorBird video door stations of the D11 and D21 series are supported.
Maximum safety - Made in Germany
The cloud-to-cloud connection between the two systems meets the highest standards of data protection and security.
For Ralph Bertelt, CEO of eQ-3 AG: “All communications between Homematic IP and DoorBird are fully encrypted and comply with the latest security standards. This means that no information can fall into the wrong hands. The Homematic IP cloud is also operated exclusively on servers in Germany and is subject to the strictest data protection and security requirements. In 2024, our system was certified by the VDE for the eighth time in a row in the areas of protocol, IT, and data security.”
Sascha Keller, CEO of Bird Home Automation GmbH, said: "As a German manufacturer, we place particular emphasis on quality, data protection, and design - values we share with Homematic IP. Integrating our IP video intercoms into the Homematic IP system offers our customers a particularly convenient way to combine security and smart home functionality."
With the integration of DoorBird, the Homematic IP system has been enhanced with a high-quality solution for door communication. This makes everyday life even safer and more convenient for users, in line with the smart home concept.
New features of the Homematic IP app
In addition to the long-awaited integration of DoorBird video intercoms, update 3.5.13 of the free Homematic IP app contains many other new features. The new version will be rolled out gradually from now on.
The latest version of the free Homematic IP app offers Homematic IP Home Control Unit users a perfect overview of the energy flows in their building. The familiar energy dashboard has a new, improved look following a complete redesign. Data from all existing Homematic IP energy measuring devices, such as the Switched Socket with Power Measurement, are clearly visualized. Easy-to-understand graphs and data make it possible to optimize energy consumption and use self-generated solar energy in a targeted manner, for example as part of intelligent automation.
In addition to the Homematic IP app version 3.5.13, a Homematic IP Home Control Unit with firmware version 1.4.7, which will also be rolled out in the coming days, is required to use the energy dashboard. As before, users of a Homematic IP Access Point can analyze their energy consumption using the data measurement function.
Smart heating control: Integration of NIBE heat pumps into Homematic IP
Homematic IP users with a NIBE S-Line heat pump can now connect their heat generator directly to their smart home system. The myUplink cloud connection enables two smart automation features to optimize the user's energy consumption:
- Intelligent flow temperature control based on information from a Homematic IP underfloor heating system. The flow temperature can be automatically increased or decreased depending on the opening degree of the motorized valves of an underfloor heating system or the position of the valves of the Homematic IP Radiator Thermostat. Homematic IP thus contributes to the optimal and energy-efficient operation of the heat pump.
- Storing excess solar energy as thermal energy. Any surplus electricity recorded by a Homematic IP interface for smart meters can be automatically used to fill the domestic hot water tank. In addition, the set temperature in individual rooms can be increased during surplus electricity, if necessary. This means that solar energy that would otherwise have to be fed into the grid can be converted into heat and stored in the bathroom floor, for example. The screed can release the temperature overnight without the need for additional heating.

Automated switching of time profiles
The new "Profile Mode" feature is available in the Automation Editor as a condition and action that can be used to enable or disable a time profile. This allows, for example, to automatically stop time-controlled watering using a watering actuator when it starts to rain.
Control shading and watering via a smartwatch
The Homematic IP smartwatch app has also received an update that expands its application possibilities. Users can now quickly and easily control Homematic IP sprinkler, shutter, and blind actuators using their mobile phone, smartwatch, or other connected device.
App update rollout begins today
In addition to these new features, the latest version of the app contains numerous improvements and bug fixes to optimize the overall user experience. The update with version number 3.5.13 will be rolled out gradually via the respective app stores starting May 27, 2025, and will be available to all users within a few days.
