Already equipped with door/window, motion, smoke, and water leak detectors, the Homematic IP alarm system now includes a video surveillance function. The new range comprises two indoor cameras, three outdoor models, and a video doorbell.
The six devices are integrated with the Homematic IP app, which centralizes security devices, detected events, status information, and video feeds. Users can thus remotely verify the source of an alert and, depending on the model, communicate via the integrated microphones and speakers.
What you must rememberSix devices cover indoor, outdoor and access control surveillance From 3 to 5 megapixels of resolution depending on the model Up to 30 meters advertised range for night vision Two storage modes : microSD card up to 256 GB or short encrypted clips in the cloud No paid subscription required for the features advertised by the manufacturer. |
Two cameras for indoor surveillance
Basic indoor camera
The basic indoor camera model features a compact design and a fixed viewing angle. Its magnetic base allows for easy adjustment of its orientation or ceiling mounting, with the image automatically rotating.
- resolution of 3 megapixels, i.e. 2.304 × 1.296 pixels;
- night vision up to 10 meters;
- motion and noise detection;
- notifications in the application;
- AI-assisted analysis performed locally on the device, according to eQ-3.
Indoor camera plus
The Indoor Camera Plus is designed for larger rooms. It can be oriented horizontally and vertically from the app, with a horizontal rotation of up to 355 degrees.
- 4 megapixel resolution;
- night vision up to 10 meters;
- motion and noise detection;
- automatic tracking of people or movements;
- Mechanical lens cover that can be activated from the application to indicate the switch to private mode.
Three models suitable for outdoor spaces
Outdoor Wired Camera
The wired outdoor camera offers the highest resolution in the range. It can be tilted horizontally and vertically and also features an automatic tracking system.
- 5 megapixel resolution;
- night vision up to 30 meters;
- motion and noise detection;
- automatic tracking of movements;
- LED lighting allows, according to the manufacturer, for color night shots.
Outdoor camera with lighting
The outdoor camera with lighting combines video surveillance with a 12W LED light, advertised with a luminous flux of up to 1.800 lumens. The intensity can be adjusted via the app.
- 4 megapixel resolution;
- night vision up to 10 meters;
- infrared motion detection and noise detection;
- horizontal tracking of movements;
- IP65 rated enclosure designed for temperatures between -20 and +50 °C.
Battery-powered outdoor camera
Designed specifically for retrofitting, the battery-powered outdoor camera can be installed without a nearby power source. However, a 2,4 GHz Wi-Fi connection is still required for setup and connectivity.
- 5.200 mAh battery;
- Battery life advertised as up to six months in standby mode, depending on usage conditions;
- 3 megapixel resolution;
- night vision up to 30 meters;
- detection of movements and people;
- IP65 protection rating.
A video doorbell to monitor access
The video doorbell combines a camera, an infrared motion detector, and an intercom system. It can operate on its 5.200 mAh battery or be connected to a permanent 12-24V power supply, which keeps the battery charged.
- 3 megapixel resolution;
- night vision;
- infrared motion detection;
- advertised battery life of up to six months in standby mode;
- communication with visitors from the application.
The indoor cameras and the battery-powered outdoor model are available in white. The wired outdoor camera, the version with lighting, and the video doorbell are available in white and anthracite.
A centralized interface since July 2026
Released in July 2026, version 3.8.18 of the Homematic IP application introduced the new alarm system interface. It provides access to equipment, events, status information, and video feeds from a single menu.
Users can activate different monitoring modes, view a camera when a sensor is triggered, or use two-way audio. The update also makes it easier to search for equipment by list or abbreviated name.
Other features are outlined in the manufacturer's roadmap. These include defining alarm zones within the image, displaying multiple video feeds, grouping notifications, and more centralized privacy mode management. Some of these features are therefore not yet available at the time of publication.
Local storage or encrypted clips in the cloud
Recordings can be stored locally on a microSD or microSDHC card with a maximum capacity of 256 GB, formatted in FAT32. When the card is full, the oldest files are replaced by new events.
A cloud-based solution is also available without a subscription. However, it is limited to six-second event clips, stored for seven days. Remote access, notifications, and cloud storage require an internet connection, as the cameras use the local Wi-Fi network.
A VDE certification to be specified according to the scope of the system
eQ-3 indicates that the Homematic IP ecosystem has VDE certification covering protocol security, IT security, and data protection. The system certificate specifically covers the control units, the radio protocol, the server infrastructure, and the application versions listed within it.
The manufacturer specifies that the security requirements applied to the system also apply to the new cameras. Event recordings sent to the cloud are advertised as encrypted and hosted on servers located in Germany. Furthermore, using the application does not require creating an account.
Rules to follow during installation
The installation of a camera by a private individual must remain limited to the interior of their property. It must not film the public road, neighboring properties, or infringe on the privacy of visitors and passers-by.
When people outside the family circle regularly enter the home, they must be informed of the presence of the cameras and their purpose.
