What's new in the Heritage Mission in 2025
FDJ United's "Heritage Mission" game offer
The FDJ UNITED group is offering a new edition of its "Mission Patrimoine" gaming offering starting September 1st. Available in three versions, the ticket is built around six games and a bonus game, and highlights the 18 emblematic sites of the regions selected by the Mission Patrimoine in 2025. Sold for €15, it will allow players to win up to €1,5 million. The amount of the levy on bets normally going to the State, i.e. €1,83 per ticket purchased, will be donated to the Fondation du patrimoine.
In addition, the Group is offering, from September 8 to 22, eight dedicated Loto draws as part of the Mission Patrimoine scheme:
- On September 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 20, and 22, players will have the opportunity to participate in a Loto draw, with a jackpot of at least €2 million. A Super Loto will also take place on Friday, September 19, on the eve of European Heritage Days, with a jackpot of at least €13 million. €0,54 will be donated by the State to the Heritage Foundation for each €2,20 grid played, and €0,73 for each €3 grid played in the Super Loto.
The Heritage Mission in brief
In September 2017, the President of the Republic entrusted Stéphane Bern with a mission to identify endangered heritage sites and seek new sources of funding to restore them. This initiative gave rise to the "Heritage Lottery," an operation organized by the Fondation du patrimoine, FDJ UNITED, and the Ministry of Culture.
A partnership was established by a multi-year agreement between these three partners, which defines the operation. This original operation has generated enthusiasm among the French since its launch: more than 7.000 sites at risk have been reported on the participatory platform. www.missionbern.fr and millions of players participate each year in the preservation of heritage, by playing the “Mission Patrimoine” scratch and draw games from FDJ UNITED.
Sites can also benefit from collections of donations and patronage subject to their eligibility and, for those protected as historic monuments, from subsidies from the Ministry of Culture.
The success of the Mission is the result of its participatory and partnership-based method, which guarantees the quality and variety of the local heritage projects identified and whose cultural, economic and social interest is thus revealed to the general public.
The 2026 call for projects
The call for projects is open on the site missionbern.fr/signaler-un-site. Owners, associations, municipalities and heritage enthusiasts are invited to identify sites at risk throughout metropolitan France and in overseas communities. These reports can be made throughout the year.
- To apply for the 2026 edition of the emblematic sites of the Heritage Mission, files must be submitted before November 16, 2025;
- To apply for the selection of departmental sites for the 2026 edition of the Heritage Mission, applications must be submitted before February 28, 2026.
More information in the “Frequently Asked Questions” available on the site missionbern.fr/faq.
The selection procedures
Applications submitted on the site www.missionbern.fr are instructed by the departmental and regional delegations of the Heritage Foundation, composed of volunteers and employees. The Ministry of Culture, through its regional directorates of cultural affairs, participates in this first examination, in particular of buildings protected as historic monuments.
Heritage support associations, such as La Demeure historique, also participate by submitting projects and relaying information to their members.
After the local examination of applications, particularly with regard to the Mission's criteria, the list of projects and their financing is drawn up by the Fondation du patrimoine based on available resources, on the proposal of the selection committee chaired by Stéphane Bern and composed of representatives of the Fondation du patrimoine, FDJ UNITED and the Ministry of Culture. It meets twice a year.
Eighteen emblematic heritage projects from metropolitan regions and overseas communities and one project per department are selected each year, according to four main criteria:
- heritage and cultural interest;
- the state of peril;
- the maturity of the project;
- its impact on the territory and the development project.
The results
The Heritage Mission revealed the general public's interest in the richness and attractiveness of local heritage. Nearly 770 new projects were reported for the 2025 edition on the platform. www.missionbern.fr.
Since the first edition in 2018, the Heritage Mission has helped more than 1.000 sites with their restoration work, including more than 140 emblematic regional heritage projects and more than 900 departmental sites (one site per metropolitan department and overseas community). Today, more than 75% of the projects selected during the first 7 editions have already been saved: 290 are underway and 440 are completed.
Reminder: 2025 project allocations
The amount of the allocation for each departmental site will be announced at the end of the year based on sales of the “Heritage Mission” games.
The allocation granted to each of the 18 emblematic sites in the regions, which were revealed last March, will be announced during the European Heritage Days on September 19, 20 and 21, 2025.
Funding granted
Since the first edition of the Heritage Mission, more than 325 million euros have been raised to support the restoration work on all the selected sites:
- More than 180 million euros from the Heritage Lottery;
- 103 million euros of credits allocated by the Ministry of Culture to projects relating to historic monuments;
- More than 42 million euros collected by the Fondation du patrimoine, from corporate sponsorship, individual donations and its own resources.
Finally, the funding granted through the Heritage Lottery is allocated by the Heritage Foundation, which monitors the smooth running of the work and compliance with the heritage characteristics of the sites in conjunction with State services.
