Pellet Trophies: a second edition expanded to include all local authorities and social housing providers

The awards ceremony will take place at the Mayors' Trade Show, from November 24 to 26, 2026 in Paris.

A first edition that demonstrated the commitment of the territories

In November 2025, at the Propellet booth at the Mayors and Local Authorities Trade Show, eight municipalities were recognized for their exemplary pellet-fired heating systems. These projects, undertaken by municipalities ranging in size from 270 to over 92.000 inhabitants, included Pruillé-l'Éguillé (Sarthe), Barberaz (Savoie), Poitiers (Vienne), and Charnècles (Isère). The awards ceremony was held in the presence of Anne-Catherine Loisier, Senator for Côte-d'Or, Daniel Gremillet, Senator for Vosges and member of the High Council for Energy, and several members of parliament, demonstrating the strong institutional support for the competition.

2026: an expanded scope to reach more territories

Extension to all communities. Municipalities, groups of municipalities, urban communities, metropolitan areas: any territorial structure with a collective pellet boiler can now apply, regardless of its size or legal status.

Eligible social housing providers. Beyond municipalities and inter-municipal bodies, social housing organizations with a collective pellet-fired boiler can now apply. This expansion opens the competition to the social housing sector, where the challenges of decarbonization and cost control directly impact tenants.

The commissioning date constraint has been removed. Operational installations, regardless of their commissioning year, are now eligible. Projects with a proven track record can therefore be recognized, not just recent achievements.

Application schedule and procedures

Applications are open until October 15, 2026. An online application form must be completed, including technical specifications, photos, and a presentation of the installation. The awards ceremony will take place at the Propellet booth during the Mayors and Local Authorities Trade Show, from November 24 to 26, 2026, in Paris.

Wood pellets in rural areas: a growing energy source

The Pellet Trophies are part of a sector-wide dynamic confirmed by the 2025 data: a 15% increase in the number of collective pellet boilers installed. For private individuals, 128.000 pellet stoves were sold (up 36% compared to 2024) and 8.060 pellet boilers (up 13,5%). National pellet production is also boosted by the commissioning of several new factories. In both public and private buildings, pellets are emerging as a concrete solution to the objectives of decarbonization, energy independence, and cost control.

For Eric Vial, general delegate of Propellet: "In a context of energy tensions and the search for sovereignty, the Pellet Trophies highlight a French sector capable of providing local, renewable and competitive heating solutions."
