The Garbsen public open-air swimming pool is adorned with 200 m² of Kebony Clear wood

After seven years of work, the public open-air swimming pool in Garbsen, near Hanover in Germany, has reopened its doors. Several daybeds as well as 200 m² of Kebony wooden rest areas have been installed within this vast leisure area.

The Lohaus Carl Köhlmos architectural office, in charge of the project, chose Kebony wood to create several daybeds and large rest areas. Developed in Norway, Kebony's pioneering wood treatment technology involves heating sustainably sourced softwoods with furfuryl alcohol, a product of agricultural origin, thereby modifying the wood to acquire the same properties as woods. tropical hard, with a reduced carbon footprint.

Environmentally friendly, Kebony wood requires minimal maintenance. It stands up to heavy use and weathering and develops an elegant silver-gray patina over time. All these qualities have made it the obvious choice for this modernized leisure area, surrounded by nature and capable of welcoming all kinds of audiences.

Kebony is a real, high-end, ecological and durable wood, used in many outdoor applications: decking, cladding, roofing and furniture. Kebony technology is a patented production process that improves the properties of softwoods to give them characteristics comparable to those of exotic woods.

Thanks to an environmentally friendly process, the woods are impregnated with an organic liquid from agricultural crop waste. By heating the wood, the furfuryl polymers are impregnated into the cell walls of the wood, increasing its density and dimensional stability, and giving it a dark brown color similar to a tropical wood.
