GSE is launching the construction of the largest logistics warehouse in France dedicated to electric batteries, near the ACC gigafactory.

This project, the first of its kind in France, will support the strategic development of the European battery sector.

A key link for the French battery industry

Located in the municipalities of Billy-Berclau and Douvrin, the future site will develop nearly 42.000 m² on a plot of land of approximately 10 hectares, including 1.445 m² of offices.

Designed to meet the specific requirements of ACC's first gigafactory in Europe (Automotive Cells Company, a subsidiary of the Total, Stellantis and Mercedes-Benz groups), this high-threshold SEVESO warehouse will ensure the logistics of electric batteries, raw materials and packaging, in a just-in-time flow logic.

It will include: storage cells, an area dedicated to flammable liquids, two R+1 office blocks at the front, as well as logistics equipment integrating autonomous mobile robots (AMR).

This project constitutes the largest logistics warehouse in France specifically dedicated to the logistics of electric batteries, illustrating the industrialization of this strategic sector.

A technical project meeting stringent industrial constraints

Developed on behalf of the investor SDAN (Julien de Lapize) and supported by its project management consultant IREO (Raffi Kizilian), the building was designed to adapt to the operational constraints and complex flows of the end user.

SDAN (Société de Développement Axe Nord) is a development and investment company specializing in logistics real estate, committed to innovation and sustainable development.

According to Tony Tinnirello, Development Director at GSE: “From the earliest design phases, we supported our client in optimizing logistics flows directly linked to ACC’s (Automotive Cells Company) gigafactory, while integrating particularly high safety requirements related to SEVESO classification. This tailored approach also allowed us to stay on schedule, with work starting in January 2026 and delivery planned for early 2027.”

This project is part of the ongoing partnership between GSE and SDAN, following a successful first operation in Dunkirk.

A functional and sustainable architecture

Designed by the Santer Van Hoof Architecture agency, the project offers a sober and functional architecture, adapted to the industrial requirements of the site.

Particular attention has been paid to the environmental integration of the project, through the creation of infiltration and buffer basins, a design aimed at obtaining BREEAM Excellent certification, as well as obtaining the BiodiverCity basic level label, reflecting a desire to reconcile industrial performance and respect for ecological balances.

These choices reflect the desire to reconcile industrial performance and control of environmental impact.

A project at the heart of a strategic industrial ecosystem

Located within an industrial area undergoing rapid transformation, the project benefits from immediate proximity to major logistics routes and the ACC (Automotive Cells Company) gigafactory, thus strengthening the competitiveness of the entire value chain.

By facilitating the management of battery and component flows, this new warehouse will contribute to sustainably structuring the regional industrial ecosystem around electric mobility.
