France reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by -1,7% in 2019 compared to 2018

The 2019 emissions level therefore shows that the carbon budget of the National Low Carbon Strategy (443 MtCO²e) is respected with a margin of 6 MtCO²e, and that the 2019/2018 decrease is greater than the average decrease expected by the trajectory of the SNBC between these two years (-1,5% per year).

The fight waged since the start of the five-year term to fight against climate change is bearing fruit. It must be continued in order to achieve the objective of climate neutrality by 2050. In 2019, the use of fuel oil is thus decreasing in the tertiary sector as in the residential sector, thanks in particular to the Government's incentive policies which have made it possible to replace more than 100 000 oil-fired boilers with efficient heating systems that emit less that year. This movement will accelerate with the ban on their replacement after 2022. In the industrial sector, emissions of fluorinated gases (HFCs), used for example for the cooling process, fell sharply in 2019, in line with European regulations and the incentives put in place by the Government.

The Government has also initiated many projects to fully integrate the French economic model into the ecological transition, with the adoption of structuring measures in the energy and climate law, the mobility orientation law or the anti-waste law. for a circular economy and the implementation of France Relance comprising 30 billion euros of green investments.

The next step in this fight is the presentation in the Council of Ministers of the Climate and Resilience bill on Wednesday, February 10. With this new law, the objective is to bring ecology into the home of every French person and to accelerate the adoption of new ways of moving, eating, consuming or even finding housing in favor of fight against climate change.
