France Urbaine welcomes the progress on the status of local elected officials adopted by the Senate

Following the debates in the chamber, France urbaine wishes to commend the work of the upper house, under the impetus of the rapporteurs of the text Jacqueline Eustache-Brinio, senator of Val-d'Oise, Anne-Sophie Patru, senator of Ille-et-Vilaine and Eric Kerrouche, senator of Landes, as well as the listening of Françoise Gatel, Minister of Territorial Development and Decentralisation.

With regard to preventing the risk of conflicts of interest, the text adopted and sent to the National Assembly confirms the major progress achieved during the first reading, improving the clarity of the law and the legal certainty of the exercise of the mandate of local elected officials. This progress resulted from a very positive dialogue, both with the Government and with the rapporteurs of the text in the National Assembly, based on the unanimous positions and proposals of elected officials' associations.

On many points, the text emerges strengthened from the Senate, providing additional guarantees to enhance the effectiveness of our legal framework in matters of ethics and integrity.

France Urbaine is now awaiting the return of the text to the National Assembly. It knows it can once again count on the attentiveness and commitment of the rapporteurs Stéphane Delautrette, Member of Parliament for Haute-Vienne and President of the Delegation for Territorial Authorities and Decentralization, and Didier Le Gac, Member of Parliament for Finistère, to endorse the progress adopted by the senators, and to ensure that this text, which is essential for the vitality of our local democracy, enters into force as soon as possible.
