Facility management spending has been increasing more slowly than inflation since 2019.

A market valued at over €100 billion

French companies and public institutions spent €102 billion on facility management in 2024 (of which €16 billion was outsourced to FM providers). A quarter of this spending was for public services and infrastructure such as train stations and airports. The remaining three-quarters were distributed relatively evenly between offices, factories, warehouses, retail outlets, and other venues (cinemas, museums, stadiums, etc.).

Over the period 2019-2024, facility management spending grew at a slower rate than inflation. This increase stemmed, in part, from the expansion of the non-residential real estate stock. The decline in retail real estate and the development of vacant office space due to the widespread adoption of remote working were largely offset by the continued construction of new logistics centers and data centers. Furthermore, the cost of FM per square meter also increased, as growth in spending on environmental management and technological innovations aimed at improving the user experience more than compensated for downward pressure on the prices of basic services in struggling sectors (offices, retail).

Favorable medium-term outlook

Looking ahead to 2030, facility management spending will continue its upward trend, driven more by the increasing value of FM operations (due to the greater technical complexity of services, the need for expertise and management, etc.) than by the expansion of real estate space. Industry players will therefore need to evolve and adapt their offerings to effectively support their clients in more sustainable and intelligent building management, while paying particular attention to occupant experience and comfort. Quality of work life is now a key driver for attracting and retaining talent, making FM professionals a strategic pillar of organizations.
