Engie signs a renewable electricity supply contract with Apple in Italy

The French energy company will build two agrivoltaic installations (88 megawatt, MW), two wind farms (74 MW), and will provide the "repowering" of a third (11 MW) under this agreement, it said in a statement.

"Repowering" involves replacing the components of an existing installation in order to increase its power and extend its lifespan.

"In total, 80% of the energy produced will be allocated to Apple, while the remaining 20% ​​will be injected into the grid, helping to meet the annual needs of approximately 30.000 homes," the group specifies.

He estimates that this avoids "more than 160,000 tonnes of CO2" each year, "which is equivalent to the emissions of nearly 70.000 conventional cars".

These parks, located in southern Italy, have already been authorized and will be operational between 2026 and 2027, Engie specifies. They will offer a total installed capacity of 173 MW and will produce more than 400 GWh (Gigawatt-hours) of electricity per year.

The group did not specify in the press release what type of infrastructure Apple will use the energy produced for.

Engie is basing its strategy on the deployment of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) worldwide, aiming to make them "a key lever for supporting its customers in their transition to decarbonization." The group has signed 4,3 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy PPAs by 2024.
