Eiffage Génie Civil and Chantiers Modernes Construction clinch the world record for the longest sliding formwork completed at one time

As part of the transformation project of the Syctom household waste treatment center in Ivry / Paris XIII, Eiffage Génie Civil (agent for the civil engineering contract) and Chantiers Modernes Construction, a subsidiary of VINCI Construction France, have just been awarded, by Guinness World Records, the record for the longest slip formwork completed at one time.

Chosen for its speed compared to conventional concreting, the sliding formwork technique enabled the teams to build the new reception and storage pit for residual household waste of the future Energy Recovery Unit in just 19 days (from February 18 to March 13, 2020).

The structure stands out above all for its dimensions: 62 meters long, 22 meters wide and 31,5 meters high, for a total of 212,78 meters made of sliding formwork. 3 m634 of concrete, 3 tonnes of steel and 671 hydraulic jacks were needed for its construction.

“Confident in the know-how of our teams, several years ago we made the daring bet to use slip formwork to carry out this major work of the project. Our employees have taken up this challenge thanks to their professionalism and their ability to always go further. This record encourages us to continue pushing the limits of technique ”, explains Benoît Lapostolle, operations director at Eiffage Génie Civil.

“This success is the result of the daring and spirit of innovation and adaptation shown by our teams to face the challenges encountered during the preparation and implementation phases. We are proud to have obtained this record which pays tribute to the work of the design and construction teams. In all, 160 people were mobilized for this operation ”, explains Karim Rahbani, deputy director of public works Île-de-France of VINCI Construction France.

Carried out on behalf of Syctom, the metropolitan household waste agency, the leading European public operator for the treatment and recovery of household waste, the site consists of transforming the current center, which is reaching the end of its life, into state-of-the-art equipment notably providing better environmental performance. By the end of 2023, the existing incinerator will be replaced by an energy recovery unit (UVE) which will treat 350 tonnes of residual household waste each year.
