Due to budget cuts, 8.000 training courses have been cancelled in Nouvelle-Aquitaine

While the government has cut national funding for these training programs by 56% in its 2026 budget, the region declares that it is "no longer able to compensate for the loss of funding".

"The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region is forced to eliminate a total of nearly 8.000 training places, out of an annual capacity to welcome more than 30.000 new trainees," the regional council said in a statement.

Following a decision by the government in early March, the state's contribution, initially expected to reach €65 million according to a multi-year financing plan, has been reduced to €44,38 million. This further reduction comes on top of an initial €15 million cut already factored into the 2026 budget.

Faced with this loss of revenue, the region acknowledges "that training programs will be weakened by these cuts in places, but it is no longer able to compensate for the funding losses." It nevertheless assures that it will allocate €142 million to training for job seekers in 2026.

At the end of February, the association Regions of France had already said it feared the elimination of 60.000 places at the national level, denouncing a government budget reduced to 377 million euros compared to an amount of 854,9 million euros contracted three years ago.

A 2022 study by Dares reminds us that the probability of finding a job within 18 months increases by 10% for an applicant who has completed training.

For the first time in five years, the unemployment rate has risen above 8% in France, up 0,2 points in the first quarter of 2026 and 0,7 points over a year, Insee reported.
