Colas CZ and Colas Rail have been awarded a contract by Sprava zeleznic (Czech Railways) for the modernisation of an 8-kilometre railway line in northern Bohemia. The project, worth €77 million, will significantly improve the safety and efficiency of transport under the Krusne hory mountains.
Built in the 1980s to support the growing lignite mining in the region, this section is part of one of the main lines of the European railway network. The modernisation of the railway will begin in September 2024, with completion scheduled for 2027.
The project includes a complete overhaul of the double track, the installation of new catenaries, the modernisation of signalling systems and the renovation of six railway bridges. To improve passenger comfort, two new accessible platforms will be built, as well as a footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists and an underpass.
