Mr. Farandou recalled during the question period in the government that this proposal had been formulated by the Medef "within the framework of the autonomous social dialogue" between unions and employers.

"The ideas and proposals that have been put forward are absolutely not being taken up by the government," he asserted, while stressing that youth employment is "an important issue on which we are working."

According to documents handed over last Wednesday to trade union organizations during a meeting between employers and unions, the Medef proposed the creation of a permanent contract "that can be terminated without cause during the first few years", with "increasing compensation linked to the employee's seniority in the event of termination".

The CGT described the proposal as "a declaration of war against young people and workers".

The Medef also proposed to look into the minimum wage, "which can sometimes be a barrier to employment for first-time entrants" to the labor market.

The main employers' organization also suggests strengthening "commitments to vocational training", lowering the minimum duration of part-time contracts "below a certain age", eliminating waiting periods between two fixed-term contracts or increasing their legal duration.

On Monday, Matignon indicated that the creation of permanent contracts (CDI) proposed by the Medef (French employers' federation) was "not on the agenda." "The Prime Minister's priority is to conclude the ongoing negotiations between social partners regarding negotiated departures," the same source added.
