Bouygues announces a reduced net loss in the first quarter and maintains its forecast of "slight growth"

The French giant, active in construction, real estate and telecoms, suffered a net loss of 123 million euros in the first quarter of 2025, excluding the exceptional contribution on the profits of large companies in France, compared to a loss of 146 million euros a year ago, it said in a press release on Wednesday.

He estimates the "estimated effects of the finance law and the social security financing law" at 100 million euros for the year, as he had previously announced, including around 40 million euros recorded in the first quarter.

"The group had a good first quarter, confirmed its objectives for 2025 and demonstrated its solidity in a very uncertain global geopolitical and macroeconomic context," declared CFO Pascal Grangé during a telephone press briefing.

Bouygues maintained its 2025 forecasts, as announced in March during the presentation of its 2024 annual results: it is still targeting "slightly higher sales and current operating profit from activities compared to 2024," it added.

Taking into account the surcharge linked to the finance and social security financing laws, the net loss attributable to the group reached 156 million euros in the first quarter of 2025.

This loss also includes depreciation and amortization "recognized during acquisitions, of 29 million euros", non-current expenses related to a performance-based incentive plan within its subsidiary Equans (building energy management) and non-current income related to the sale of data centers by Bouygues Telecom, the group specifies.

Its turnover totaled 12,6 billion euros, up 2,2% year-on-year, driven by Colas (public works), Bouygues Construction and Bouygues Telecom thanks to the first contribution over a full quarter from La Poste Telecom, acquired at the end of 2024.

At constant scope and exchange rates, turnover increased by 0,9%.

Construction activities (Colas, Bouygues Construction, Bouygues Immobilier) have an order book of €34,2 billion, a "new record", up 12% year-on-year, "driven by Bouygues Construction and Colas". Bouygues Immobilier, for its part, "continues to face a difficult market environment", with an order book (at €900 million) down 11% year-on-year.

Equans, acquired from Engie in 2022, posted a turnover of €4,6 billion, stable over one year, and an order book of €26,4 billion at the end of March 2025, up 1% over one year.

At the end of April, TF1 announced that its net profit would be halved in the first quarter, falling from 30 to 15 million euros, due to the dual effect of the exceptional tax on large companies and the drop in rates, which reduces the return on cash.
