Designed and manufactured in Alsace, this modular metal system is aimed at social housing providers, construction companies, and architects involved in energy renovation or timber-frame building projects. Thanks to its ingenious design, BALMERA® makes it easy to add exterior balconies to existing buildings.
According to Christian Hanssen, head of Métallerie Hanssen: “We designed BALMERA® to offer a reliable, quick-to-install, and aesthetically pleasing solution. Its patented load-bearing profile with integrated water recovery meets the requirements of thermal and energy-efficient renovation.”
A modular and efficient system

BALMERA® is made entirely of galvanized steel (with optional powder coating). Its modular design allows for adaptation to site requirements: configurations with 2 or 4 posts, or a guyed version. The system supports live loads of 350 kg/m² and has an R30 fire rating, guaranteeing the safety and durability of the structure.
Adaptable to architectural desires, the BALMERA® system accepts different types of decking, including wood, without compromising on fire compliance.
The exclusive G profile developed by Métallerie Hanssen incorporates a rainwater harvesting system, a major technical and aesthetic advantage. Water can be drained from the posts for discharge into the sewer system or for storage and subsequent use for irrigation.
Each balcony is custom-designed in our Strasbourg workshops using CNC machines, guaranteeing precise, repeatable, and high-quality manufacturing. This industrial expertise is combined with artisanal finishing to create unique and durable pieces.
A solution that promotes rehabilitation and improves the comfort of residents
BALMERA® addresses the growing demand for outdoor spaces in multi-family housing and represents a significant opportunity for thermal and energy-efficient renovation. By combining engineering, design, and metalwork expertise, Métallerie Hanssen offers a solution tailored to the challenges of modernizing the housing stock.
Among the emblematic projects: the Signal Tower in the Elsau district and the Cité Lizé in Strasbourg where several BALMERA® balconies were installed as part of a rehabilitation program led respectively by Ophéa and Habitation moderne.
