At the HLM Congress, Minister Valérie Létard assures that she wants to fight for housing

"Believe me, I will fight," the minister told social housing stakeholders, gathered in Montpellier until Thursday, with whom she has already spoken, many of them in the context of her past parliamentary duties.

"I am at your side," she added, after recalling that "the Prime Minister told me to come and tell you of the interest and lucidity he has regarding your difficulties."

Valérie Létard did not specify her priorities for action or go into detail on the three areas (social, economic, environmental) that she indicated she wanted to work on, on Monday during her handover speech.

She will speak on Thursday at the closing of the 84th HLM congress and should give more information.

During her visit to the aisles of the Congress organized by the Social Union for Housing (USH), she was approached by social housing organizations, social housing financiers, and even a tenants' association.

"The weight is heavy to bear on the shoulders of a young minister appointed on Saturday, when I see all the expectations expressed during the journey (travelled within the Congress, Editor's note) to reach my first platform. I can tell you the sincerity of my commitment," she expressed during this first speech in front of professionals.

The expectations of social housing stakeholders are very high. They are indeed faced with several financial constraints that limit their capacity to produce and renovate housing, while the number of people waiting for housing in the social housing sector continues to increase.

"I don't have a magic wand," warned the minister, who wants to "understand the priorities" but will have to "make choices."
