In 3 years, home automation appeals to young people more than seniors
The proportion of households not owning any connected objects has fallen considerably in 3 years and has gone from 19% in 2022 to 14% in 2025.
In fact, more than 81% of French people already owned at least one home automation device in 2022, and the over-50 age group was the most represented with 82%.
Three years later, the craze for connected objects is even stronger, but it is those under 35 who are leading the way, with nearly 90% of them being technophiles.
A search for functions that is confirmed
While French people's interest in home automation is growing, the features sought after remain largely the same. Thus, in 2025, temperature management remains the most popular feature among French people, with 67% interest, a slight increase compared to 2022 (65%).
Lighting comes in second with 65%, just ahead of security with 64%. Overall, features have remained very stable since 2022, reflecting a certain market maturity and user expectations.
8 out of 10 French people are looking to save money through home automation
The French are looking for energy efficiency and peace of mind.
Indeed, energy savings will become the main reason for purchasing connected objects in 2025, rising from 59% in 2022 to 81% today. This expectation is undoubtedly exploding in response to the decline in purchasing power and the search for all possible solutions to save money.
Security research is also growing strongly, reaching 77% in 2025 compared to 58% three years ago.
Finally, comfort remains an important lever (63%), while time savings are progressing more modestly (53%).
Less complex but too expensive products
Connected device manufacturers have made significant progress in making their products much simpler to use. In 75, 2022% of consumers complained about the complexity of installation and use, but this figure dropped to only 64% in 2025.
On the other hand, the brake on purchasing has increased by 23 points and gone from 61% in 2022 to 84% in 2025.
Price therefore remains a problem and this is also reflected when the French are asked about the budgets allocated to home automation.
Consumers willing to invest more than €100 have fallen from 57% in 2022 to just 49% in 2025.
An even stronger “yes” to home automation
In 63, more than 2022% of French people said they wanted a fully connected home. By 2025, the number will be even higher, with 65% of respondents in favor.
It should also be noted that the number of people who are still doubtful is increasing, rising from 5% to 8%, thus reducing the number of people who are reluctant from 32% in 2022 to 27% in 2025.
Methodology : two comparative surveys carried out among 8.517 people in 2022 and 8.412 in 2025, spread across the whole of France aged 18 and over. Surveys carried out online, on the proprietary BuzzPress France panel (27.500 people), using the quota method, during the period from June 2 to 7, 2022 and from April 9 to 18, 2025. Responses compiled and weighted according to pre-established quotas aimed at ensuring the representativeness of the sample and in order to obtain representativeness of the target population.
All weightings are based on administrative data and data collected by INSEE.
