Architect Denis Valode, co-founder of the Valode & Pistre agency, died on Tuesday, December 9th.

A highly talented architect and exceptional draftsman, he became a professor at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 1970, where he was in charge of an architecture and urban planning workshop. In 1971, he won the Architecture Nouvelle program with a project for industrialized social housing using synthetic materials.

He received the silver medal from the Academy of Architecture in 1988 and the Vermeil Medal for Encouragement for National Industry in 1990. The L'Oréal Factory project in Aulnay-sous-Bois was awarded the Silver Square in 1992 and the Quaternario Prize in 1993.

He was named a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in 1997 and, after receiving the Grand Silver Medal from the Academy of Architecture in 1999 for his body of work with Jean Pistre, he became a member of the Academy of Architecture in 2001. He was named a Knight of the Legion of Honour in 2002 and an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2007.

Valode & Pistre, an architecture, urban planning and design agency, has carried out and managed numerous projects in France and internationally, including the Grand Stade Pierre Mauroy in Lille, the T1 and Saint Gobain Towers in La Défense, the Monaco sea extension, the Shenzhen Exhibition Park in China, several stations of the Grand Paris Express, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Bordeaux and the Beaugrenelle shopping center…
