Abertis, a subsidiary of Mundys, becomes the owner of 100% of the A63 motorway in France

The approximately 105-kilometer motorway has a 25-year concession expiring in 2051 and generated revenue of 179 million euros in 2025, according to a statement from the Italian group Mundys.

Abertis, a subsidiary of Mundys, had already acquired 51% of the capital last year from Axa and bought the remaining 49% from minority shareholders: HICL Infrastructure, CVC DIF and NGE Autoroutes, for an amount that has not been made public.

The A63 motorway, considered by Mundys as a key road corridor between France and Spain, links Salles (Gironde) to Saint-Geours de Maremne (Landes).

The operation illustrates the strengthening of Mundys' investments in France, where its capital now approaches 11 billion euros.

The Italian investor is the majority shareholder of the Italian-Spanish infrastructure group Abertis (linked with the Spanish company ACS), which itself owns 100% of Sanef, the historical operator of highways in northern and eastern France, and also in Normandy via its subsidiary SAPN.

In France, Mundys is also the main shareholder of the airports of Nice and Cannes, and the second largest shareholder of Getlink (Eurotunnel), of which it owns 15%.

Mundys (formerly Atlantia), which belongs to the Benetton family, underwent a deep restructuring of its capital in March 2023 following the delisting of Atlantia from the Milan Stock Exchange and the public takeover bid launched by the Benetton family - whose stake rose to 57,8% - and the American investment fund Blackstone.

In May 2022, Atlantia divested itself of the Italian motorway network Autostrade per l'Italia, which was acquired by a consortium led by the Italian Caisse des Dépôts (CDP) for an amount of 8,19 billion euros.

After the collapse of the Genoa viaduct in August 2018, which Autostrade managed, the Benetton family was under intense pressure to sell its share to the Italian state.

The image of the extremely wealthy family had been tarnished after the bridge collapse, which killed 43 people and shone a spotlight on the state of transport infrastructure in Italy.
