AGC Glass Europe supplies most of the glass for the Grand Egyptian Museum

Recognized as the world’s largest archaeological museum, it houses approximately 100.000 objects, including the complete collection of Tutankhamun, exhibited in its entirety for the first time.

AGC Glass Europe is proud to have played a significant role in this monumental project by supplying most of the glass used in the construction of this museum. In total, more than 30.000 m² of AGC solar control insulating glass were installed on the building's exterior facades and interior display windows, contributing to the transparency, energy efficiency, light, and timeless beauty of this World Heritage Site.

Clarity for ancient treasures

For the display cases of the exhibition dedicated to King Tutankhamun, AGC supplied approximately 2.500 m² of Planibel Clearvision, an extra-clear, low-iron glass that guarantees excellent light transmission and color fidelity. The superior transparency of Clearvision glass, which was assembled as laminated glass, allows visitors to see the objects in their true colors, offering an authentic visual experience while ensuring the protection of the artworks.

Energy efficiency and solar control for the facade

The museum's exterior façade incorporates AGC's Stopray, Energy, and Sunergy solar control insulating glass solutions. This combination of different low-emissivity glazing options and varying degrees of solar control optimizes interior comfort while reducing energy consumption. Large, floor-to-ceiling windows not only flood the museum's interior with natural light but also offer spectacular views of the Giza pyramids, connecting visitors to Egypt's timeless landscape.

Designed by Heneghan Peng Architects, the Grand Egyptian Museum combines high-tech, environmentally friendly glass, stone, and natural light in a contemporary design that pays homage to Egypt's ancient heritage. The result is a cultural destination that bridges the past and present, offering an immersive journey through more than 5000 years of history.
