80% of French people are in favor of a balanced energy mix

To accelerate the energy transition and strengthen sovereignty, France has complementary energy sources at its disposal. While price remains the primary selection criterion, interest in hybrid solutions and green gas is growing significantly.

Price, the primary decision criterion in energy matters

The price of energy remains the top priority for 88% of French people, far ahead of comfort and safety. The image of gas continues to improve: it has gained 2 points compared to 2024 and enjoys a positive perception among two-thirds of the French population. Gas is particularly appreciated for its everyday convenience, especially for cooking and heating.

The study highlights the strong desire among the French for a diversified energy mix, combining green gas, nuclear power, and renewable electricity. This is key to addressing economic, environmental, and security of supply challenges. Renewable, local, and rooted in regional communities, green gas is emerging as an essential energy source for a successful energy transition.

While the heat pump remains the most well-known heating system among the general public, the hybrid heat pump—combining gas and electricity—is gaining popularity. More than 60% of respondents now say they are familiar with it, a 3-point increase compared to 2024. Furthermore, more than one in four French people believe that gas offers the most advantages compared to other energy sources for heating, a perception even more pronounced among households already using gas. The hybrid heat pump ensures a balanced energy system by leveraging the complementary nature of energy sources.

All gas equipment is compatible with green gas.

Green gas, a rapidly growing energy source

In France, more than 800 methanization sites are spread across the country, with a green gas production capacity of 15,7 TWh/year. The PPE 3 (Third Multiannual Energy Programme) sets a target of 44 TWh/year of green gas injected into the networks by 2030 and a high target of 82 TWh/year by 2035.

Among those who have heard of green gas, 89% have a positive perception of it. In terms of support for renewable energy, green gas ranks second with 77% favorable opinions, behind hydroelectricity and ahead of solar and wind power.
