In the context of COP26, Dynata - the world's largest first-party data and insights platform - releases new report revealing nearly eight in ten people globally believe governments need to act and oblige each other to achieve common climate change goals. In addition, respondents believe that by joining forces to fight climate change, governments, businesses and individuals will see their actions produce more tangible effects. For the political class, the electoral challenges of the fight against climate change continue to grow. Indeed, 54% of the 12 people questioned indicate that a candidate's position on this subject is in the top 000 of their priorities when it comes to voting - and seven out of ten believe that elected officials rarely walk the talk when it comes to climate.
These findings - and more - are presented in Dynata's report, Global Consumer Trends: The Urgent Action on Climate Change, which examines the imperative for governments, businesses and individuals to act together. without delay to curb climate change. It is also intended to be a reflection on the measures that governments, businesses and individuals can take in the face of this growing threat.
The report also highlights the following points:
- Strong conviction that climate change is real - 84% of respondents believe that climate change is real, and 69% are “100% sure” or “somewhat sure”.
- Sense of urgency to act for the climate, increasing over the past five years - Seven in 10 people (69%) in the world believe that it is “extremely” or “very” urgent to act for the climate; and 65% of these believe that the emergency has accelerated over the past five years.
- Businesses Must Act Now - For those convinced of climate change, companies should invest in clean and renewable energies (60%); adopt sustainable business practices (59%); and commit to a net zero emission target (53%). 35% of those convinced of climate change believe that companies should hold the government to account in this matter.
- Individuals can act, at their level - Those convinced of climate change have a very precise idea of the actions that everyone should take, in particular buying “greener” (77%) and opting for means of transport that are more respectful of the environment (67%). Four in ten believe consumers should take action to influence their government's climate policy, and 24% advocate donating or volunteering with environmental associations.
