The obsolescence of certain equipment remains a major concern for the French
Elevators are an integral part of French daily life. 77% of them use it regularly. The obsolescence of the devices is a key issue. For 96% of French people, it is important to replace these old elevators. 58% of respondents even believe that it is an absolute priority. It is in this sense that the Federation is currently soliciting campaign teams for the presidential elections, in order to carry the proposal of MaPrimeRenov'Ascenseurs, to renovate the aging park.
If an elevator can have a substantial lifespan, however, its maintenance and appearance should not be neglected. More than one out of two French people (56%) insists on this last point, calling into question the old design of lifts.
A desire to expand financial aid for the renovation of housing, restoration and the installation of elevators
To meet the challenges of availability, accessibility and modernization of lifts, 77% of French people consider it necessary that the financial aid offered for home renovations include the installation and renovation of lifts.

A persistent lack of equipment in homes and public places
Beyond replacements, accessibility remains a big topic. Nearly two-thirds of French people (63%) emphasize the importance of equipping residential buildings with lifts and want to challenge politicians in the context of the upcoming presidential elections. We will nevertheless highlight an improvement in public places compared to 2020.
“We want to draw attention to access to mobility for all. A few weeks before the first round of the presidential elections, it must be part of the reflections carried out by the candidates on the societal issues facing the French” continues Philippe Boué.
Other key figures to remember:
- 57% of French people believe that vertical mobility solutions help people stay at home and improve daily life;
- Only 17% of French people have daily use of the elevator in their home;
- 30% of French people want to digitize their elevator experience, with for example a voice command to select their floor and open the doors and 37% want to have background music during the journey;
- Despite a clear increase in the equipping of French administrations with lifts, (+8 points since 2016), the accessibility of public places remains average.
Survey methodology:
Study carried out on a representative national sample of 1082 French people aged 18 and over, 77% of whom are regular lift users. The sample was made up according to the quota method, with regard to the criteria of sex, age, individual's profession, region and category of agglomeration, in compliance with the international standard ISO 20252 'Market research, social studies and opinion'.
