LG Air Solution Europe unveils the future of HVAC

The Marketing Chiefs team’s “Green LG” mobile application wins the vote

Dilnaz Sagit, Bachelor 1 student at the University of Debrecen in Hungary, Alejandro Moreno Luna and Sergio Lopez-Guzman Heras, both Bachelor 3 at the University of Malaga, Spain, are the three winners of the first Student Hackathon “Hack For Heat” organized by LG Air Solution.

Their mobile application project called “Green LG” presented in the “Hack Heat for users” category aims to reduce household energy bills by offering precise, real-time measurement monitoring of consumption and personalized advice to encourage behavioral changes and the adoption of eco-friendly actions.

The application offers numerous features including: measuring energy consumption room by room, hour by hour, associated expenses. Thanks to the use of AI, the application analyzes data and offers users tailor-made, personalized advice. At the same time, the “Marketing Chiefs” team intends to form a large community in order to share virtuous feedback with as many people as possible.

The three students were offered a trip to Seoul, South Korea. The opportunity to discover the local culture, visit the headquarters of the LG Electronics company and understand the company's latest innovations.

Genesis of the “Hack for heat” Hackathon

Recognized for their ability to provide efficient and sustainable heating and cooling with reduced environmental impact, heat pumps are one of the solutions available to achieve the climate targets set by the EU. To accelerate the transition at work, LG Electronics imagined the “Hack for Heat” student Hackathon, the objective of which is to mobilize all energies to imagine the future of HVAC.

“Hack For Heat is a testament to our commitment to innovation and our belief that these young talents can shape the future of HVAC,” said Peter Verkempynck, senior vice president at LG Air Solution Europe.

Three challenges were proposed to European students. Each participating team selected a challenge addressing a crucial aspect of the HVAC industry:

• HACK HEAT FOR DESIGN : Redefining heat pump systems to integrate them into the urban landscape, with an emphasis on aesthetics, compactness and cost.
• HACK HEAT FOR PLANET : Create even greener heat pump systems by addressing every aspect of the product life cycle, aiming for a “zero carbon” solution.
• HACK HEAT FOR USERS : Communicate stimulating educational content and engage consumers on the impact of product use on their carbon footprint.
