To go further, the company is working on the use of CEM IV cements and aims to reduce its emissions by 37% by 2025. At the same time, Bonna Sabla has deployed a plan to reduce its energy consumption, allowing the Group to obtain the ISO 50 001 standard relating to energy management.
Bonna Sabla: pioneer in the introduction of CEM II cements in precast concrete
A historic player in precast concrete, Bonna Sabla is also a driving force in reducing its environmental impact. From the beginning of 2022, the Group embarked on the adoption of CEM II for the formulation of concrete used in its products, marking a break with the precast concrete sector which mainly uses CEM I cement (Portland cement), known for its energy-intensive manufacturing process and particularly CO2 emitting. The use of CEM II thus allows Bonna Sabla to reduce CO15 emissions linked to cement by 2% between 2021 and 2022.
Bonna Sabla is now deploying the use of CEM II at all of its 17 industrial sites, allowing the company to offer prefabricated concrete products with a lower environmental impact while guaranteeing construction quality equivalent to the solutions. based on CEM I and continuing to incorporate local additions. But Bonna Sabla does not intend to stop there and is already starting to think about switching to CEM IV in the formulation of its concrete, which would reduce its CO22 emissions linked to cement by an additional 2%. The company would like to adopt CEM IV as much as possible by 2025, allowing it to go from 33 tonnes of CO000 eq in 2 to 2021 in 21.
For Laurent Wilhelm QHSE Director of Bonna Sabla: “Our concrete industry is facing its biggest challenge since the democratization of the material in the XNUMXth century, that of considerably reducing its carbon impact and offering more environmentally friendly products to construction players. By choosing CEM II and soon CEM IV, we are adopting a breakthrough allowing us to quickly decarbonize our products without sacrificing their quality. »
An ambitious strategy to reduce energy consumption
In parallel with this decarbonization strategy, the Group shows a reduction in its energy consumption greater than the expectations of the government's energy sobriety plan which sets a reduction objective of 10% by 2024 (compared to 2019). Bonna Sabla has thus reduced its energy consumption (electricity, gas and fuel oil) between 2021 and 2022 by 24%, a drop in consumption thus reducing the share of carbon emissions linked to the use of energy by 27%.
On this energy aspect, the Group has been certified ISO 50 001, the standard recognizing the company's commitments in terms of reducing its impact on the climate, preserving resources and improving results through effective management of energy.
This global approach to sustainable development is materialized by Bonna Sabla's membership in the French Community of Companies Committed to an Inclusive Society and a Sustainable World, an initiative launched by the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron in 2018.
