Simply safe: AV-Test certifies Homematic IP for the seventh time in a row

In their test report, the experts not only attest to compliance with the highest security standards, but also underline the "excellent" concept of data protection and privacy.

The IT security effort is akin to a permanent race: Each new technical performance, each feature potentially offers a gateway to cybercriminals. This makes it all the more important to continuously improve and review your own security measures. That's why eQ-3, the manufacturer of the Homematic IP smart home system, has been collaborating with AV-Test for years. Every year, Homematic IP has to prove itself again under the strict test process of this independent German institute for IT security. The Homematic IP access point and the Homematic IP application are checked in particular for possible weaknesses and gaps in security.

Homematic IP was also able to convince in these tests in 2023. Neither the iOS version nor the Android version of the app has any critical weaknesses. According to AV-Test, local communication and connection to the cloud are "secure enough". Homematic IP relies on complex encryption and authentication for all device communications, based on tested and proven technologies that are also used by banks.

AV-Test not only praises this high level of security, but also Homematic IP's minimal data usage and detailed privacy policy. With its "excellent" data protection concept, Homematic IP is one of the most data protection-friendly solutions on the smart home market, experts say. The use of Homematic IP is completely anonymous and without cumbersome registration; only the IP address must be stored in encrypted form for technical reasons. It is not possible to draw conclusions about the identity or behavior of the user.

In addition to the AV-Test, the well-known VDE also checks the security of the Homematic IP system annually. In November 2022, it was the first smart home system certified for the sixth time in a row in the areas of protocol, computing and data security. Indeed, the complex encryption of the entire communication of Homematic IP devices and their respect for the protection of user data make it a convincing and secure system according to experts.
