1962 – 2022: Freud, 60 years of expertise for the world leader in the cutting tool industry

About Bat infosource: Freud via Primavera
Freud is a world leader in the cutting tool industry and the largest manufacturer of premium circular saw blades. This Italian family business was founded in 1962 in the region of Udine, in the North-East of Italy, known to be home to many craftsmen and manufacturers of furniture and wood processing.
This proximity to this wood industry allowed Freud to work directly with local companies and have them test his innovations in real applications.
The following decades were decisive for Freud, with in particular its arrival on the American market in 1973 and the internalization of carbide production in 1981. Freud thus became the only manufacturer of cutting tools to produce its carbide in-house, making it possible to control and control its quality throughout the production cycle, from the supply of raw materials to the finished tools. At the beginning of the century, the construction of a factory in Fagagna made it possible to increase the production of high-end circular saw blades and to bring to 4 the number of factories dedicated to the production of cutting tools, making Freud, the world's leading blade manufacturer. Even today, Freud can boast of 100% Made in Italy manufacturing.
60 years later, the manufacturer designs and produces a wide range of circular saw blades, carbide bits, brazed cutters, tool holders and superior quality inserts. Its know-how and capacity for innovation have enabled it to become a leader in the market for cutting tools for wood.
Innovation as a spearhead
Since the birth of the company, innovation has been at the heart of Freud's strategy. Continuous investment in research and development has improved tool performance and increased machine productivity.
The headquarters in Pavia di Udine now houses one of Europe's leading research centers for cutting tools. We owe him in particular the invention of the anti-vibration slots cut by laser in the body of the blade as well as the non-stick coatings, today largely democratized.
Freud: New ranges to complete the catalog
Innovation is synonymous with range development. In 60 years, the Freud offer has greatly expanded. The company started its activity with milling tools then it gradually diversified to offer today solid carbide bits, brazed milling cutters, circular saw blades, carbide inserts and tool holders for routers.
In total, more than 5000 references can be found in the Freud catalog. If it is so wide, this is explained by Freud's ambition to provide a solution for all machines on the market, both portable and stationary, and all applications.
AThus, Freud wishes to cover the needs of all craftsmen and industrialists in the secondary transformation of wood : carpenters, stand builders, cabinet makers, panel manufacturers, kitchen manufacturers, etc.
It is with this ambition that the company launched two new ranges of circular saw blades and automatic flat saws in less than two years.
Range of circular saw blades for portable machines
Launched at the end of 2020, the range of blades for corded and cordless electric portable and semi-stationary saws includes 285 references. Recognizable by its red color, this range is intended to be universal with an answer for all building needs. : wood and derivatives, pallet wood, particle board, HPL, aluminium, fiber cement and sandwich panels. The objective of this range was to optimize the autonomy of the battery of the cordless machines, by reducing the effort of this one.
For this range, Freud has designed specific tooth geometries, adapted carbide formulas, reduced the thickness of the blade body and optimized the coating of the blade body.
These blades are compatible with most brands of power tools on the market. In order to complete this range and always meet the needs of users, 30 new references have been added to the catalog this year.
New range of LSB X blades for automatic flat saws
In order to offer solutions for all machines and all applications on the market, Freud has launched a new generation of LSB X blades for automatic flat saws with unfailing durability.
Including 156 references, This range has been designed and fitted to over 130 panel sizing machines, ranging from 250mm to 720mm in diameter and all common bore sizes.
Thanks to innovative technologies, LSB X saw blades offer optimum performance and perfect cuts in chipboard, melamine, MDF, HPL and acrylic panels.
They benefit from a special tri-metal alloy which provides extreme resistance to shocks. The TiCo (titanium-cobalt) carbide, custom made in-house by Freud, combined with a special “Supersquare” square tooth geometry ensure a clean and perfect cut. The life of the blades is prolonged because the teeth can be sharpened up to 25 times.
Thanks to its Silver ICE coating, the blades benefit from excellent protection against corrosion and rust. In addition, the anti-friction technology promotes chip ejection and reduces resin agglomeration. Friction is reduced and blade life is extended. Finally, for a quieter cut, the LSB X blades have anti-vibration slots.
